Biography: Lauren Graham

Lauren Graham is best known for her roles on Gilmore Girls and NBC's Parenthood. She is also the author of her debut novel, Someday, Someday Maybe which is available in stores and online. The following article and brief biography discusses little known facts you may not know about Lauren Graham.

Lauren Graham was born on March 16, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii to Lawrence Graham and Donna Grant. The Graham family moved to West Virginia, and at age five, Lauren's parents were divorced. Lauren was raised by her father in a single parent household. Her mother moved to England where Lauren would visit her on vacations. Lauren’s mother Donna died in 2005.

Lauren Graham graduated from Langley High School in McLean, Virginia in 1985.  While in high school, Lauren Graham began acting in several theatre groups.  After high school, she moved to New York City and enrolled in a performing arts program at NYU. However, Lauren decided to change schools and attended Columbia University’s Bernard College. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in American Literature.

After having difficulty finding an agent and landing acting roles, Lauren Graham attended Southern Methodist University's graduate program in Dallas, Texas.  She graduated  from SMU with a Master's in Fine Arts degree. Lauren Graham returns to the university to conduct acting workshops for current students.

After graduation, Lauren moved to Los Angeles, California to establish herself as an actress. She guest starred in several TV series including 3rd Rock From the Sun, Caroline in the City, and Seinfeld.  Graham's big break came in 2000, when she was cast as Lorelai Gilmore in the WB hit TV series, Gilmore Girls. On Gilmore Girls, Lauren Graham's character was a single mom raising a teenage daughter in the quirky fictional town of Stars Hallow. The TV series ended in 2007.

In addition to television, Lauren Graham has appeared in movies such as: One True Thing, Bad Santa, The Pacifier, Because I Said So, Evan Almighty, and other movies. 

In 2008, Lauren played the role of Miss Adelaide in the Broadway play Guys and Dolls. Since October 2009, Lauren has took on the role of Sarah Braverman on NBC's Parenthood.  In addition to acting, Lauren Graham can add author to her resume. As an avid reader, she has joined the literary world by publishing her first novel, Someday, Someday Maybe in April 2013. The novel is now available for purchase at major bookstores and online including Barnes N Noble, Amazon, and local booksellers.
